It was mid-May in Helsinki
When the peonies are in full bloom
And the trees dress in green.
It was the day when freedom bursted in the chest
What would I do if I were a butterfly?
I’d stop by to smell the tulips
And the withering cherry blossoms.
I’d snoop on the cats at my neighbour’s window.
I’d then fly at one of the tables at the cafeteria in sight
And circle around the sticky juice recently spilt.
I’d be carried by the smell of warming Baltic sea
Back and forward through seasons and time.
This day the wild geese returned from their Winter holiday.
I’m sitting on a bench
Looking at the sun-rays playfully shining in the sea.
